PAD January, 2007
When I used to frequent PBase, I kept this up for more than a year. I found it to be not only very rewarding, but an excellent way to spawn creativity and "keep my chops up".
And as I've said before, if I can get three or four PADs up here in a week, I'll consider that an accomplishment.
Now, on for the first month's installment...
January 13, 2007
OK. Technically I took this on January 14th (12:43AM), but I haven't gone to bed yet so it doesn't count :-)
Since a few people have asked, here's what it is and how it is lit:
It's an old spring about 1 1/2" long on a piece of scrapbooking paper. It's lit by one of those LED flashlights held off to the side with my right hand as I had the cable release in the left.
The scrapbooking paper makes for great backdrops when doing macro work. You can get several sheets in a sample pack at WalMart, Hobby Lobby, etc for really cheap. There are interesting colors and faux textures that really add visual interest.
And I LOVE my Zuiko ED 50mm f2.0 Macro. Sharp as a tack with narrow DOF. Also works as a great portrait lens, too.

on January 15, 2007Very awesome photo indeed. Thought provoking... please do share what it is. If it wern't for the perfect curl on the end I'd guess it was a piece of sheet metel / roofing tin left out in the snow??? But the perfect circular end ditches that thought...

on January 15, 2007simplistic and b/w...you've reached a soft spot for me. the 2 elements that grab me are the texture in the fabric/sheet to the left of the shadow and the 'fingers of light' in the midst of the shadow. composition and lighting are quite nicely done.
