International Symphony Orchestra - An Unlikely Affair

The first concert of the 48th season of the International Symphony Orchestra was a show put on by violinists Frank Leahy and Robin Braun called "An Unlikely Afair".

The premise is that Robin is a strict classical performer and Frank is a down-home country fiddler. The audience then becomes the witnesses of the conflict between the two of them.

Robin and Frank are not only excellent musicians, but pretty darn good actors as well. The music was excellent and the banter between the two of them was hilarious.

  • Maestro Jerry Summers conducts the ISO's first piece of the night.
  • A young violinist bears down in the performance.
  • Maestro Summers introduces the two guest artists.
  • An argument erupts as Robin started the performance with a Saint-Saens piece and Frank interrupts her with some flashy fiddling as he enters the hall from the back of the audience. Here Robin tries to convince Frank that classical music is the only music for the violin.
  • Robin plays the part of the Prima Donna pretty well during the show. Here she pouts as Frank takes over the audience.
  • Just to take the part over the top, Robin digs into her purse for her cell phone to call her agent to complain.
  • Frank dances around Robin just to make his point.
  • And Robin just reacts to the "smell".
  • Now it's Frank's turn to listen. His whole thing is classical music is just plain boring. Here he counts the spotlights to pass the time as Robin demonstrates the virtues of classical music.
  • Demonstrating that she's multi-talented, Robin sings a bit of an aria.
  • Robin then leaves the stage in a huff, so Frank takes over again. Here he serenades an audience member on stage with "Are You Lonesome Tonight".
  • Robin comes back on stage in full workout gear. She earlier stated that she finds pilates to be an important aspect of her musical training in order to maintain the spiritual connection between body and soul. Here she tries to get Frank to join her in a workout and as you can see, he's just raring to go.
  • Robin shows off her chops to start the second half.

  • Robin shows her frustration with Frank as he refuses to even attempt to try some music in her style.
  • Robin leaves the stage again and Frank has second thoughts. Here plays a bit of Debussy's La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin.
  • I think he's actually enjoying it...
  • Robin comes back on all decked out for a Barn Dance. Here Frank offers some hands-on help to Robin to help her play with rhythm.
  • She picked up pretty quickly...
  • Sigmar Martin, Concertmaster, plays the main theme in an edited version of Bolero.
